Fire Extinguisher Maintenance

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states
that fire safety equipment is "maintained in an efficient state,
in efficient working order and in good repair". In other words
the fire extinguishers should be maintained so that you are
confident that they work when you need them to work!

Maintenance checks should be carried out annually and an
extended service including a full discharge test every five
years and Co2 every ten years.

Your fire extinguishers should have a service record label
attached. The label should clearly indicate when the next
annual service and when the next full discharge test are due.
This should be checked during the ongoing Fire Risk
Assessment of the premises and is part of the
Fire Marshal's responsibility.

The British Standard 5306 part 3 says that the maintenance
is performed by a 'competent person'. A 'competent person'
is somebody with the skill, knowledge, practical experience
and training to enable him/her to perform the required
maintenance. If you do not have a person in-house who can
be described as a ‘competent person’ then you should employ
an external provider to perform the required work.

The DBG dental engineers are trained to perform the
necessary checks on your fire extinguishers and the most
cost effective time to do this is when our engineers are next
at your practice maintaining your dental equipment.
