DBG Dental Radiography Update Course

The course includes revision of prior knowledge and
updates you on the impact of the latest legislation.
The nature and effects of ionising radiation, identifying
and quantifying the radiation risks involved in dental
radiology are also covered. The principle components
of the IRR1999 and 2000 legislation will be outlined
and how the legislation impacts on clinical practice.
Having attended the course you will be able to
implement appropriate quality control measures and
identify what is considered as "best practice".

The course will also provide guidelines on the
appropriate implementation and operational
management priorities leaving you confident that
you understand the roles and are meeting the
responsibilities of the Employer, Referrer,
Practitioner and Operator.

The Course Tutors

Tim Reynolds HDCR. TDCR.

Tim was formerly Principal Tutor, course leader in Diagnostic Radiography at Keele University School of Radiography. Following the school closure Tim worked in the Department of Radiological Sciences, School of Postgraduate Medicine and then the School of Chemistry and Physics developing, organising and running in-service and CPD courses and study days for a wide range of health related professions.

On the Council of The College of Radiographers, 1986 to 1992, he chaired at different times the Professional and Technical and the Education committees of the College, Tim also served as Vice President of the College.

Tim was involved with many initiatives in the areas of Quality, Standards, Audit and Safety, including, collaboration with the NRPB, on the National Dosimetry Protocol, College Guidelines on QA systems and Professional Standards in Diagnostic Radiography.

While serving as Vice Chair of the Education committee Tim was involved in the collaboration with the Dental Surgery Assistants Standards and Training Advisory Board on developing the first curriculum for Dental Radiography training.

Tim has been directly involved in Dental Nurse Radiography Training and Dental Radiation up dates for the past eight years.

Dr. Richard DeCann MSc. PhD. HDCR. TDCR. SRR.

Richard has over 30 years experience in clinical and academic radiography. He qualified as a radiographer in the Royal Navy, has a wide range of clinical experience and became a lecturer in 1980. His research into aspects of patient care are well published and his doctorate was awarded for his work on clinical competencies in radiography.

He was formerly a Principal Lecturer and the Director of postgraduate studies in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiography at the Department of Radiographic Studies, Keele University. When the department closed Richard was appointed as a Radiography Consultant to the Department of Radiological Sciences, School of Postgraduate Medicine and then the School of Chemistry and Physics where he developed, organised and ran in-service and CPD courses and study days for a wide range of health care professions.

He was the first editor of Radiography News, is a peer review editor for Radiography and former Chairman of the Midlands Branch of the Society and College of Radiographers.

Richard is a specialist in general and dental radiography and has, for many years, been an authority on clinical care and radiographic research.


The cost of each course is £135 plus VAT per candidate for DBG member practices (£350 plus VAT per candidate for non-members). A non-refundable 25% deposit per candidate is required to reserve places. Full payment is required four weeks prior to the course date. The cost of the course includes lunch, refreshments and Compliance Certificate.
