Clinical & Special Waste

The Environmental Protection Act 1990 and The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 place a "Duty of Care" on anyone who produces waste. Dental practices produce waste therefore they are covered by these legislations. The Department of Health-Safe Management of Healthcare Waste 2006 and the BDA Advice sheet 76 offer guidance to the Dental Practice on waste management.

The DBG have negotiated a preferential arrangement with Cannon Hygiene to help their members meet current and future changes in legislation. Cannon Hygiene offer a complete waste removal service specifically designed for dental practices.

Dental waste disposal includes dressings, swabs, disposable garments, gloves, sharps and syringes, feminine hygiene, waste amalgam, spent amalgam capsules, x-ray lead foils, undeveloped film, lead aprons, x-ray developer and fixer, disinfectants, precious metals, partly spent anaesthetics and out of date drugs.
